Field Day!

There is no honmework tonight.  2nd Grade did a beautiful job at the May Crowning today!  Tomorrow will be another full day for all of the St. Luke students.  Field day is coming up!  Please bring your child to school in a St. Luke School shirt and shorts (must be longer than finger length).  Please bring a change of clothes, extra shoes and a towel.  Also, please put sun screen on your child since we will be outside for most of the day.  Thank you so much!

Today, we learned how to count quarters in Math.  We also learned how the letter "o" can sometimes make the short "u" sound in a word: eg: month, won, and wonder.  In science, we have been working on plants.  Today, we planted our very own sunflower in the classroom.  We named it Sandy the Sunflower.  We are very excited about checking it's growth through the weeks!

  In Math today, we learned our subtracting 6 facts.  In Phonics, we learned that the letter "a" makes the "o" sound when followed by  a "w" or "qu".  In science, we have been investigating the effects of colored water on celery stalks.  We are always excited to check our experiment daily to check for any changes!

      Can you believe that it is already March?  Time is flying by so fast!  Today, we learned how to write different amounts of money by using a dollar sign.  In Phonics, we learned about the vowel, consonant, vowel pattern to divide syllables in words.  In English Language Arts, we read the story:  "Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type".  In the story, we are learning about Cause and Effect.  In Social Studies, we are learning the difference between Needs and Wants.

Valentines Day!

It is almost Valentines Day!  2nd grade will be having a classroom party at 2pm this Friday the 14th.  We will be having snacks, games, and spending time with friends!  Your child may bring valentines to each of the students as well.  This should be an exciting time.  See you then!

Catholic Schools Week!

Wednesday is our Student Appreciation Day!  Each student may come to school wearing jeans and a St. Luke T-shirt.  We will be eating popcorn and watching a movie later on in the day.

Thursday is our pot luck dinner, class skits, open house, and science fair.  The Second Grade holiday theme is the Fourth of July.  On Thursday evening, please have your child wear either a red, white, or blue T-shirt in order to perform our patriotic skit.  Please practice our two songs with your child so that the lyrics will be easier to remember for Thursday.

Friday is early dismissal.  There will be no lunch or ESD on this day.


Please remember to purchase a ticket for our Denim and Diamonds Benefit Dinner.  The event is on February 8th.  I hope to see you there!

For Catholic Schools Week, 2nd grade will be performing a small skit on Thursday evening.  Our Holiday theme is the Fourth of July.  I am posting the lyrics to several songs we will be singing so that your child may have a chance to practice them at home.  This should be a fun experience for 2nd Grade!
